A long-time partner of Multiplex’s Connectivity Centres, Star Group is helping forge careers for job seekers in the Hunter.

Since the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct (JHHIP) Connectivity Centre opened early last year, Star has attended multiple training sessions, talking to candidates about what it’s like to work in electrical trade, and introducing them to opportunities at Star.

Star has gone on to employ six candidates to work at JHHIP and other local projects.

“The Connectivity Centre candidates have been enthusiastic and engaged, and we’re really pleased we’ve been able to give six of them the opportunity to further their learning and careers,” said Bryce Coleman, General Manager at Star Group.

“I continue to be amazed by the positive impact the Connectivity Centres have on candidates in terms of their employment, mental health, skills and knowledge, and social interactions. We’re grateful to be a part of it.”

Riley and his brother James are two of the six candidates working with Star and already they are feeling positive about the future.

“From the time we picked Star as the company we wanted to pursue a career with, they have been more than hospitable. Everyone has encouraged us to keep moving forward and to learn new things,” says Riley.

“We can’t thank them enough for taking a couple of strays and giving us hope for us and our families’ future. We were lucky to get a shot at this and we are working hard to not let it be a waste.”

The unique Connectivity Centre model relies on job seekers like Riley, employers like Star, support agencies and other community groups to come together and co-create tailored solutions for local job seekers who need a hand entering the industry.

“Their ongoing, genuine commitment to assisting those most vulnerable in our community is incredibly valuable to the individual, their families, and their communities.
